Commodore 500E Calculator Instruction Manual

Presented here is the operators instruction manual for the Commmodore 500E electronic calculator. The Commodore 500E is an OEM version of Casio's 101E, with minor variations from the Casio version. It should be noted that there is a typographical error in the stated specifications of performance for the machine. This manual quotes addition and subtraction speed of 0.0006 seconds. This figure is too fast by an order of magnitude, with the calculator actually performing a full addition or subtraction cycle in 0.006 second, or 6/1000ths of second, also represented as 6 milliseconds (6 mS). As represented in the manual, the speed of 0.0006 seconds would be 600 microseconds, which is far too fast for the type of circuitry used in the calculator.` Measurements made of the calcualtor cycle time for addition/subtraction show that the 6 milliscond figure is within the ballpark of time observed with instrumentation. The extra zero in the time quoted in the manual is simply a typographical error that was not caught in the pre-print version of the document.
