Commodore 1161 Electronic Calculator Newsbyte
Newsbyte for the Commodore 1161 Electronic Calculator
A short product newsbyte for the
Commodore 1161 Electronic Calculator.
The Commodore 1161 was the 16 digit version of it's stablemate machine, the 12 digit
Commodore 1121. The two machines were very similar
other than the number of digits of capacity. The electronics were based on the same design, and in fact,
many of the circuit boards were identical between the two machines. The calculators utilized
a combination of small and medium-scale Japanese-made MOS Integrated Circuits along with a large
number of discrete components including transistors and diodes. Both the 1121 and 1161 were designed
and manufactured by Casio in Japan for Commodore under an OEM agreement between the two companies. Casio versions of
the machines were the Casio 121 and
Casio 161. At the time, Casio's marketing presence
in North America was somewhat limited, and the OEM agreement with Commodore made it possible for
Casio to indirectly make money on these calculators in that market.
